If you’ve been around here for a while, you probably know Audrey is obsessed with flamingos, or “flinginos” as I love to hear her call them. She wanted a flamingo big girl room when we moved into our new house, she has stuffed flamingos galore, and she even got to have a flamingo encounter photo shoot at the Birmingham zoo back in August. So it’s only natural that she would ask for a flamingo birthday party this year!
Flamingo Birthday Party
This may have been my favorite party to date. For some reason this party just seemed simpler and I can’t quite put my finger on why. We still set up a tablescape, but it seemed easier this time. Possibly because I basically grabbed everything flingino I could out of Audrey’s bedroom, so I wasn’t having to buy much as far as decorations go. I think the main reason why I think I loved this party so much is because AUDREY loved it so much. Her love for flinginos is the cutest and it was a hoot seeing how excited she got over every thing, whether it was her flingino party shirt, or the decor, or a flingino gift. She loves it all!
The location we used for her party was so wonderful to work with, which was probably the main reason why this party was so easy to pull off. We had her party at Cheerville Athletics in Athens, Alabama. Cheerville is a tumbling/cheer gym that you can rent out for birthday parties. All we had to do was set up the party room the way we want and they took care of the rest, including cleaning up after. They were the most reasonably priced in the area, you can invite an unlimited number of guests, the party room is large, and the kids get to play a majority of the time in the gym area. They set up a huge bouncy house/slide and the kids can play on the tumble track, foam pit, trampoline, and other areas in the gym. They ran, flipped, and climbed their little hearts out!!
As for decorations, I grabbed a few things I had left from Raley’s Lilo and Stitch Luau party and Audrey’s pancakes and pajamas party, and, as I mentioned before, lots of flamingos from Audrey’s bedroom. My sister drew the big flamingos for the backdrop on poster board and I simply hung them with string looped over the top of the bamboo backdrop. And how pretty are the colors of these balloons? A beautiful combination of colors makes me SO HAPPY inside!
I forgot to mention, her party was scheduled for Saturday, but due to the severe weather threat we decided to move it to Sunday afternoon. They were predicting severe weather, possibly even tornadoes, at the exact time of her party on Saturday, so Cheerville so kindly let us change it to the next day. We were so thankful to get to do the party the following day, rather than having to move it to a completely different weekend. I already had all of the food ready/ordered, so I’m glad that we didn’t have to re-prepare/rebuy all of that another weekend.
As far as food is concerned, I decided to stick with mostly sweets since the party was at 2pm. In hindsight I probably had too many sweets, but it’s all good!
On the menu:
- Sprinkle donuts
- Puppy chow
- Cheeseballs
- Fruit with fruit dip
- Cupcakes
- Cake made by my friend Heidi and topped with blue and pink macarons from the new Le Macaron at Bridge Street
- Pink party punch
- Water with lemon
- Juice boxes for kids with flamingo straws
Thank you to everyone who came to celebrate with us! We had a blast! You all made her day special. Seeing your kids giddy with excitement is one of the highlights of all parenting moments.
One birthday party tradition that we accidentally stumbled upon is making a “birthday wish” and letting the balloons go into space. I love balloons for parties, but I DO NOT like them in my house. The kids fight over them, they end up floating up and getting caught in the ceiling fan, and then the girls are sad when they lose their air and I have to throw them away. As much as I looovvved the colors of these balloons, they had to go. We watched these balloons float to the heavens until we couldn’t see them anymore. Raley said “I think they floated all the way to God.” <3
