Small Business Small Talk: Trinity’s (+ A Giveaway)

I’m excited to share Trinity’s with you in today’s Small Business Small Talk feature! Trinity’s is a gift shop in downtown Athens where you can find a special something for just about anyone you’re shopping for…or for yourself! They have jewelry, home decor, seasonal items, baby gifts, outdoor items, handbags, candles, and so much more! One of their Ronaldo bracelets will definitely be on my Christmas list!

Amy, the owner of Trinity’s, is such a sweetheart! She has lived in Athens for most of her life. She went to college at Auburn University then found herself back here in Athens. Her husband is from Athens as well (they were even in the same Kindergarten class!) They have been married for 4 years and have a son, Henry, who will turn a year old next month. Both of their parents still live in Athens, which I know from experience is such a blessing! It’s so wonderful when your children get to see their grandparents on a regular basis. Her parents are a big help at Trinity’s. Amy says that her mom is great with visual merchandising and her dad is their resident handyman.

Q: I’d love to hear your story! How did you get started? What inspired you to open your shop?

A: My affection for Trinity’s began when I worked there as a sales associate. I loved helping customers pick out the perfect gift or find a goodie for themselves. This got me thinking about bringing classic, trendy, and unique gifts and decor to shoppers and how to offer great customer service. I had the opportunity to acquire Trinity’s in 2013. And looking back over these past 5 years, I am most excited about how Trinity’s has expanded with great new gifts, home décor, and jewelry.

Q: What can people expect when they walk into your shop? What makes your business unique?

A: You don’t have to spend a lot of money to find the perfect gift at Trinity’s.   Whether you are looking to buy a small pick-me-up for a friend or a birthday gift for a special loved one, whether you are shopping for your grandparents or your friend’s newborn; we‘ve got gifts that cover all the occasions and extraordinary people in your life.

Q: What is your company’s mission?

A: To inspire shoppers to perfectly express their feelings through unique and affordable gifts and décor.

Q: What types of items are the most popular?

A: We offer such a variety of products it is hard to say! Our outdoor décor (garden flags, door mats & door hangers), candles and jewelry are definitely top sellers. Our recently added baby/children’s section items have become go-to gifts for moms and grandmoms.

Q: How do you select your products?

A: I think one of my strengths is that I have an eye for unique items and the determination to find them.  I strive to find products that aren’t readily available at big-box stores.

Q: What challenges have you faced as a small business owner and how did you overcome those obstacles?

A: I would love for everyone to shop at Trinity’s for everything that they would ever need.  I go to market and see all these remarkable luxury lines, qwerky gifts, and uncommon products and it is tempting to bring it all home. But, I don’t want the shopper’s experience to be overwhelming. So, I stay keenly focused on selecting products that fit our valued customers’ need — great quality and affordable prices.

Q: Is there anything new or exciting coming up that you’d like to share with your customers?

A: We are so excited to have just celebrated our 5 year anniversary at Trinity’s. Now, as holidays are approaching, we’re looking forward to all the new décor, ornaments, and gifts of the season. These incredible items are coming in every day! A couple of upcoming holiday events in downtown Athens that we participate in are Christmas Open House, (Nov. 16- Nov. 18), and Sippin’ Cider, (December, date TBD)

Q: I can imagine that taking the leap to start your own business can be nerve-wracking. Is there any advice you would offer to someone who is considering opening a business of their own?

A: I would advise someone to truly follow their instincts regarding opening a business. Even though two professionals I spoke with about taking over Trinity’s thought I had lost my mind and did not encourage it, I believed so strongly in the potential growth at Trinity’s and I knew I could make it happen.
