Hey there! I’m popping in today to share a few things that we’ve been up to the past few weeks! We are coming off of a somewhat busy, but nice Fall Break last week. We had a few appointments and things we needed to do, but we squeezed in some fun little outings as well.
One of the girls’ favorite things is to build a fort in the living room and have a movie night. The last couple of times we’ve done this, we either brought home a pizza, or made a frozen one, and set up a little “table” for them under the fort with their little chairs. They think this is the coolest thing! Movie Night is literally the only time we eat in the living room, so they think it’s super special when we get to do this.
For a few days, we had this cute little black kitty cat hanging out around our house. The girls thought it really was Binx from Hocus Pocus. They were confused at why he couldn’t talk (ha!) He had been roaming the neighborhood and someone finally decided to adopt him, which is good. He was a sweet little kitty.
I mentioned in Monday’s post how much I enjoy spending one-on-one time with my girls. Audrey gets Mommy time every week because she has dance on Wednesday mornings, and I keep Raley out of MMO every other Tuesday so that I can enjoy some time with just her as well. I decided to do this because I feel like I need this time with her before she goes to Kindergarten next year. I know if I don’t take it, I will regret it. I also know that I’ll miss it like crazy next year!
We had been wanting to see the new Small Foot movie, but wasn’t sure of a time when we would get to all go as a family (fall is crazy busy around here.) I decided to make it a date and take her to see Small Foot, just the two of us. It was Fall Break for a lot of the other schools that week and I did not anticipate the theater being so crowded on a Tuesday morning! There were only a couple seats left in the theater and none that were together. So I bought one ticket for the both of us and we shared a seat. The chairs they have now are wide recliners, so we both fit + I got some snuggle time with my girl. If you haven’t seen Small Foot, I recommend it! It was a cute movie!
I thought we may be pushing it to get to dance after the movie was done, so I packed a picnic lunch that we could eat on the go, just in case. Turned out, we had a little bit of time to kill, so we found a shady spot at Bridge Street and quickly ate our lunch and grabbed some ice cream before we had to leave.
Audrey had been asking to have her nails painted recently, so I thought why not take her to get a little mani-pedi? I’ve taken Raley to have it done before, but this was Audrey’s first time. If you know Audrey IRL, you know that she’s a little chatter box that has a hard time being quiet. The girl was SILENT the entire time we were there! She kept giving the girl who was doing her nails the side eye and she would put her head down and pout. The girl was very nice and kept asking her questions and she just was not having it. It was quite comical actually. She was very excited about her pretty nails once we were done.
Although, I will say that I probably won’t be taking them back to the salon to get their nails done for a while. The polish on her fingernails was almost completely gone by that evening because she is constantly putting her hands in her mouth. It’s just not worth the money! Her toenail polish held up alright, but the fingers didn’t.
Every week I ask Audrey where she wants to go eat for lunch after dance. I give her the option of McDonald’s or Chick-fil-a where she can play. Every week she tells me she wants “BBQ,” which actually means she wants to go to Lawlers and eat mac-n-cheese. Whatever you want little girl!
A couple Saturdays back we went with my parents to the pumpkin patch at Lyon Family Farms. The girls have a blast here! Raley says her favorite part is the corn pit. Audrey says her favorite part is the big slide.
I personally love it all! There is so much to do. We played on the playground, went down big slides, went through the corn maze, did a human rat race, went down more big slides, zip lined, went on a hay ride, fed animals, picked a pumpkin, and more. I think if you’ve got several hours to spend there, you are definitely going to get your money’s worth!
Last week was fall break, so we took this time to chill at home some days and made time for some fun outings. The girls had been begging to go to Early Works Children’s Museum, and I had planned on taking them on Tuesday of last week because we didn’t have anything planned for that day. But I woke up with a migraine and all I could do for a few hours was just lay on the couch. The girls were very sweet and played quietly while I rested. They each even laid with me for a bit and watched movies.
We ended up going to Early Works the next morning. I know I’ve said it before, but I really do love Early Works. There’s not a ton to do there, but it is calm and quiet play time. And I love these adorable little pioneer dress up costumes! They are just precious.
Audrey had her first dentist visit that afternoon and took it like a champ! She laid back like a big girl and opened her mouth so she could clean, polish and floss! They said most first timers don’t let them do that much. I’ve got to brag on Raley too, because since their appointments were at the same time with different hygienists, I stayed in the room with Audrey most of the time. Raley was very brave in the room by herself without me. I was a proud momma! They were telling me how well behaved my kids were and I was thinking Ha! There’s a first time for everything!
So of course I had to take them for ice cream to put the sugar bugs right back on their teeth.
Friday of Fall Break was a beautiful day, so I took them to the garden to play for a bit. Since the water features are not on anymore, we got to do some things that we usually skip over (because in the summer, most of our time is spent in the water). Audrey could have sat and played in sand ALL DAY!
We also enjoyed walking through the maze, and I found out that behind the maze there is a life size checker board that I had no idea existed after all this time! I seriously feel like I find something new every time we go to the garden.
Saturday was the third Saturday in October, which means Bama played Tennessee. We spent the day at David’s parents’ house, eating “football food,” watching the game, and carving pumpkins.
The girls were hilarious trying to pose like cheerleaders. Audrey popped right into a liberty, and I honestly don’t know where she learned that. I don’t think I’ve ever showed her what a liberty is before. I think she’s a natural, even though David is very much against cheer. But he can’t deny – it’s in her blood! 😉
One of David’s friends from work was having a Halloween party that evening so the girls had a sleepover at their grandparents’ house and we got dressed up and went to the party! It was sort of a last minute decision, so David wore a Scream costume that he had from several years ago, and I threw a Maleficent costume together the day before. I already had a cape from a couple years ago when I dressed up as the evil queen, and I wore a black maternity dress that I had in my closet with a long sleeve black shirt under it. The horns are from Party City and I pinned a black boa to the cape. The staff is a long branch that we found at David’s parents house earlier that day and spray painted black. I hot glued a raven to the top and it turned out perfect!
I’m incapable of looking scary so Maleficient is smiling in all of these pictures.
Last but not least, we had Raley’s first field trip with her class yesterday at Lyon Farms. It was great to watch her run around and play with her friends, while I stood back and talked with mine.
I think that wraps up the last couple weeks for us! How was your fall break? Did you go anywhere excited or did you stay in town? What is your favorite fall activity?
